Issues of genetically modified produce and the risk of ingesting pesticide residue and preservatives, coupled with greater awareness of environmental issues and climate change are prompting a sharp shift to more natural options. Organic food products are swiftly becoming the preferred choice, even as stringent food safety legislation is being brought into place.
Quality, consistency and reliability are the hallmarks of all offerings from ITC Spices, and this holds true of our recently launched organic product line. We ensure that every stage of our supply chain, from crop production to processing, is certified according to India's national organic production norms, which are aligned to global market requirements, e.g. USDA standards.
For products to be authentically organic, stages of development beyond crop production must also be appropriately certified. Our handling, storage and processing facilities are fully accredited and carefully monitored to maintain the integrity and vital qualities of our products at all stages.
ITC Spices runs an organic crop development programme at the field level for four core spices - Chilli, Turmeric, Cumin & Coriander, with our product range encompassing about 45 product variants in different formats - whole, powder, or steam-sterilized.
The programme works in association with over 200 farmers in three states, covering more than 700 hectares. Production scale stands at higher than 900 MT. These organic practices comply with NPOP, NOP and EU organic standards. Under the initiative, we leverage a strong organic supplier network of about 60 valid suppliers -including FPOs. We thoroughly screen the seller's capabilities and run periodical product testing to ensure authenticity.
ITC Spices is currently also collaborating with multiple bodies for other value chain certifications.
